Quick setup
- On the same network as your TVHeadend box, open PlayTVH.
- Use Find or add server (mDNS / LAN scan) or enter host + port (default
9981). - Sign in with a TVH user that can stream (and DVR if you use recordings).
- Open Channels and tap a channel.
Common fixes
- Can’t connect off-LAN — use VPN, reverse proxy with TLS, or expose only what you trust. Prefer HTTPS.
- Stream auth fails — API calls use Digest; media uses HTTP Basic. Allow Basic for the streaming user or use a pass profile your network can reach.
- Server asleep — add the NIC MAC under Servers → Wake-on-LAN, enable “Wake before connect”.
- Offline download empty — finished recordings download best via
/dvrfile; ensure the file still exists on the server. - Chromecast fails — Cast uses your TVHeadend HTTP stream URL (not a phone relay). Prefer a WebTV / H.264-style profile over raw
pass, and keep the Cast device on a network that can reach the server.
